Here come the Georgia Bulldogs! Look out SEC, and college football for that matter. The Bulldogs don’t seem to get the respect they deserve. Last years team was young, and very talented. I’m sure Bulldog fans remember the 41-10 victory over Hawaii in the Allstate Sugar Bowl to end the season last year in the Louisiana Superdome. Hawaii was a powerful offensive team all season, lead by one of the best QB’s offensively in the NCAA, Colt Brennan.

Georgia’s 41 points set a record for most points in a bowl. The previous best was 40 in the 1942 Orange Bowl win over TCU (40-26) in the team’s first bowl appearance. The 31-point margin of victory in the Allstate Sugar Bowl was the largest in Georgia bowl history, eclipsing the previous mark of 27 in the 1998 Outback Bowl, a 33-6 win over the Wisconsin Badgers.

On a Sad Note, UGA VI is no longer with us, and will be missed.

Story from the Associated Press: June 28, 2008, 8:13 PM ET
ATHENS, Ga. — Uga VI, the beloved University of Georgia mascot, has died from congestive heart failure at his home in Savannah.

The bulldog’s owner, Frank Seiler, said he had the best winning record of any mascot in the school’s history.

Seiler said he noticed the nine-year-old English Bulldog was breathing heavily Friday night. He passed away soon afterward.

Uga will be buried in a vault in the Southwest corner of Sanford Stadium with his predecessors. Private ceremonies are expected early next week.

Uga VI became UGA’s mascot in 1999. He was the son of Uga V, the only college mascot to land on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

University of Georgia Athletic Director Damon Evans called it “a sad day for the entire Bulldog nation.”
