The earnings of medical assistants vary, depending on their
experience, skill level, and location. Median annual earnings
of wage-and-salary medical assistants were $26,290 in May 2006.
The middle 50 percent earned between $21,970 and $31,210. The
lowest 10 percent earned less than $18,860, and the highest
10 percent earned more than $36,840.
Median hourly earnings of nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants
were $10.67 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between
$9.09 and $12.80 an hour. The lowest 10 percent earned less
than $7.78, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $14.99
an hour.
Wage-and-salary medical transcriptionists had median hourly
earnings of $14.40 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned
between $12.17 and $17.06. The lowest 10 percent earned less
than $10.22, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $20.15.
